Greetings,
Last fall I decided to try overblowing, and tweaked a C Marine Band
according to advice from http://www.tenhole.com,
http://www.angelfire.com/tx/myquill/Harmonica.html, posts on this list
and so forth. It has been reasonably successful so far -- I can play
the 4OB, 5OB and 6OB, and that's surely something. However,
I find it really difficult to play a smooth 5B to 5OB transition. I
nearly always get a little nasty squeak before hitting the 5OB.
Perhaps this transition is harder than others because 5B and 5D are
only a half-tone apart?
While I realize that practice is everything, I have a hunch that the
5OB is going to remain difficult. In fact, last night I got fed up
with it and tuned the 5D up half a note. This seems to me to be a very
natural thing to do, in particular as the retuned 5D is very easy to
bend down.
What's the verdict on this setup? I would very much like to hear some
opinions pro and con. Are there players out there who use this minimal
modification as their preferred tuning?
-Johan.
